In 1963 C.L. Franklin organized the Walk to Freedom in Detroit, Michigan, where Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered an early version of his “I Have a Dream” speech. More than 125,000 people attended the march. C.L. Fraklin, standing left of King, was his adviser. After King was assassinated in 1968, Aretha Franklin sang “Precious Lord” at a memorial service.
